I share this poem each Thanksgiving, as a reminder of all that we have to be grateful for. I include each of you in that gratitude list, for traveling with me on this journey – and for the friendships I have made along the way. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Dog Tired

This is how tired I am. Dog tired.

But it’s the best kind of tired. This weekend, we put more than 200 bulbs in the ground and pots for spring –

and planted a Redbud in honor of sweet BoBo.

BoBo found his forever home with Rob of RobandDog –

and started him on his journey of rehabilitating those dogs most in need.

Six pups went home including one-up/one-down Tessa with her new friend Ringo,

And Barnaby who is being renamed “Barney” as in his new Dad’s favorite TV character, Barney Fife.

Adding to the chaos was a visit from Santa!

Each year he makes a special trip to Homeward Bound to take pictures with all the dogs who have been adopted –

and those who wait.

Because we don’t have a chimney in the senior sanctuary, and because some of the senior dogs can’t walk all that way to Santa – his elves were enlisted to lend a hand. Look … I can fly!

All-in-all, it was an exhausting and perfect pre-Thanksgiving weekend reminding us to be thankful for the new families of our furry friends,

and our family of devoted volunteers who make it happen.

Wordless Wednesday: Love

Made for each other

Some things are just made for each other: butterflies and flowers…

tiny frogs in roses…

the color gold and fall.

We had a weekend full of “made for each others” at Homeward Bound including Bogart and Bacall – a bonded pair that we insisted go home together. It took a little longer, but today they found their bonded human pair.

Mylee – at just ten months, is full of youthful spunk and energy; perfect for a family of kids and a runner mom to exhaust her puppy enthusiasm.

And Billy Joel. Born with extra toes and missing two wrist bones, his paw is permanently fixed in something that looks like a ballet pose.

He has adapted well and it does not slow him down one bit, so the doc says “leave it” unless it becomes a problem.

But that can be a hard thing to explain to people looking for a “perfect” dog. Until today.

He went home on a trial run – just to be sure everything works out. And we sure hope it does. Because, by the looks of things, he too found the perfect someone he was made for.

Seasons Pass

Winter turned the page to Spring.

By next week, it will feel like we are beginning Summer’s chapter.

Time passes much too quickly to wish away the seasons. Accept each moment as a gift knowing that tomorrow we will say goodbye…and in another time – and another way – ‘hello’ again.
