Dog Days (Before Summer!)

Saturday, it was 111-degrees in the Homeward Bound Memorial Garden by 2PM. The birds were seeking water…

and shade.

The Coreopsis was wiltingโ€ฆ

Even the flowers were sweating! Kidding…but they would if they could!

White looks magnificent and cooling when itโ€™s hotter than hades.

Kondos had the right idea. He makes a kiddie pool look dignified and cool.

We keep these little pools in each yard exactly for days like Saturday. When it is even too hot to trek the dogs to the big swimming pool, we bring the water to them before returning them to the air conditioning to nap away the afternoon. The pools are dual purpose; they double Steve’s Scuba Training Center. He taught Scrubs how to scuba by slyly placing his cookies at the bottom of the pool. We think he’s a natural!

The Delta Breeze mercifully kicked in Saturday night, and today we enjoyed a cool breeze while we worked, letting out a collectiveโ€ฆ.ahhh.

Have a great week all!

  1. BOL – our boys were always offended by kiddy pools. Monty preferred the big pool, and Sam just doesn’t like water. I always wondered if it was because it had Dora the Explorer on the side? ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. I have to agree that robin looks very pathetic. By Sunday I saw the robin flitting from one garden to the next. He seemed to be much happier with the 30 degree drop in temperature over night.

  2. I am pleased to see no dogs with their coats shaved like some do down here. Ours find the shady concrete path and just sleep it out (which goldens seem to do very well in any temps). Lovely photos. Joy

    1. A hideous practice that can actually lead to sunburn, never mind that no self-respecting golden would be seen with such a haircut! Thanks for the nice note. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Pool party! A dog “diving” to the bottom of a kiddy pool to “retrieve” is so much fun to watch. I cannot believe that your snapdragons have withstood the temperatures you’ve had. So glad the cooling breezes have arrived for plants and animals (including humans!).
