Many dogs travel lengthy distances to get to Homeward Bound, transported by our dedicated Golden Taxi team. But a group of dogs, including new arrivals Dimple and Moose, take that journey to an extreme.
Their arrival last weekend at the rescue was the last leg of a very long trip; a 6,449 mile trip – from Taipei, Taiwan to San Francisco.
Dogs are not equally valued in all cultures. Suffice to say, Taiwan may not be the best place to be born a dog. Johanna Quinn, an American native, and her teammates in Taiwan have made the rescue of Taiwanese dogs their life’s work. They recently formed their own group called “HOTAC” which stands for Heart of Taiwan Animal Care. Johanna pulls dogs from shelters in Taiwan and raises the funds needed to fly them to a network of rescue partners in the United States and other western countries.
The dogs’ journey begins with a long drive and wait at the airport, followed by an 11-hour flight. Upon arrival, they are met at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) by our transport team; in this case, John, his wife Beatrice and Rowena.
John and Beatrice – Homeward Bound adopters – have been part of the transport team for several years. They live in the Bay Area and wanted to find a way to contribute. Our network of caring individuals like them across the state is invaluable. In addition to transport, John and Beatrice also do home visits for adoption applicants in the area allowing us to extend our reach with confidence.
Dimple and Moose stayed overnight with them, then traveled in style to Homeward Bound in the morning.
Dimple was a breeder dog – “used up” by the age of six.
Moose is handsome boy,
but in desperate need of medical attention which has already begun.
Their arrival marks the end of a nightmare and the beginning of a journey ‘homeward bound’ for these lucky two.
Our sincere thanks to Johanna, her HOTAC team, and our own Golden Taxi transport team for giving them both a chance for a better life.
Wow, what a great network! As always, thanks for what you do!
Right back at you! 🙂
This is such a sad story but full of hope for these two special dogs who have found their way to a special place. They have a chance now to mend and to find a home they can trust. Your work and the work of all your volunteers is to be applauded.
Oh no…I didn’t mean to be sad. 😦 We’re so grateful for the network and the opportunity to help. 🙂
So amazing! They have a fair chance at a forever home! I must share and reblog if I can figure out how to…
Reblogged this on Adventures In Time Volume #3 and commented:

These people are angels – makes me believe in the kindness of human beings again 🙂 So lovely to see these beautiful dogs smiling again.
Poor babies, thank the heavens for people like you and those wonderful people at HOTAC 🙂
Commendable. 🙂 Outstanding! 🙂
Aren’t they all just amazing human beings? 🙂
Hooray for good people who can extend your reach!
🙂
Thank you all for what you do….you are appreciated!!
Thank YOU!
Wow, what a fantastic team! So happy these beautiful pups are on their way to a great new life. Best wishes to sweet Moose for his recovery.
You’ll be happy to hear that he is already making good progress. 🙂
Joyful news! Thank you, and blessings on their continued journeys.
Thank you, Kitty!
So happy they have found this wonderful place – their lives will be better from this moment on. I feel so bad for dimples, he looks to be in trouble – I hope you guys are able to save him.
That’s Moose who looks a mess…and you’ll be relieved to know that he has already had surgery to remove the mass and we’ve begun dealing with the rest. We’re very hopeful for him. Stay tuned…and thanks, Mary!
What Angels these people are. The love and dedication it takes to do what they do. Amazing. And those poor sweet dogs. OMG, my heart broke when I read the story and saw the pix of Moose, I almost cried. I’m so glad they made it to HBR. Their Angels have delivered them to Heaven.
Moose is already on the path to better health, Cindy. We’re very hopeful for him…and so glad he is here and in our care now. Thank you!
This past Memorial we were lucky enough to adopt a Taiwan Golden that was rescued by wonderful two woman/angels in Taiwan that work with the CA rescues. They even saw that she had a cancerous tumor removed before she was sent on her long journey to the US. It took about two and half years of her living with a permanent foster that recently had some personal issues, thus had to give her back to the Los Angeles Golden Retriever Rescue, Now her name is “Traveler”, which we thought was rather fitting. Traveler is is our angel from Taiwan and we hope that her every day is filled with tails that our wagging and many kisses and treats! Thank you for assisting these wonderful animals and loving them.
What a wonderful note! Thank you for adopting “Traveler” (a very appropriate name!), thanks to her long-term foster family, and thanks to LA Golden Retriever Rescue for giving her the opportunity to be saved. It’s possible that the angels in Taiwan are closely affiliated with ours. We’re so grateful for what they do. Lucky Traveler…thank you for loving her.
Hope and healing prayers go to Dimples and Moose. I am so happy that they finally in loving hands that shall see that they get the love and and healthcare required for their rehabilitation. Thank you so much for what you do.
Dimple and Moose’s story made my mommy cry happy tears and then hug and kiss me. I know Moose and Dimple are getting lots and lots of hugs and kisses too, and I think a lot of humans deserve some big, sloppy dog kisses for the beautiful work they do. Thank you!
Ahhh….Miss Harper Lee…tell your mommy not to cry. No doubt Dimples will find a home in record time – and Moose is already receiving the medical attention he needs. We’re very hopeful for him. Such a sweet boy!
I have tears! Rescues are amazing!
Sam
Tears of joy for our friends, I hope. They are in good hands now.
You and all the people doing this are amazing, to say the least.
Ah, thank you. But the gift is ours. These pups pay us back ten-fold in love. 🙂
Spoken like the angel I thought you are:)
What can I say your all amazing. You certainly go that extra “hundred” miles for them, wish more people were like you and your team. The dogs look so happy with you all, thats says everything!xxx
We’re able to do what we do because we have an amazing network of partners and awesome volunteers. There are many doing great work…but always, more in need.
