Remembered Here

To my dear friend and author of The Grady Report – thank you for remembering your beloved companions in our Memorial Garden.

I am a nascent gardener, rescuer, and photographer, chronicling the journey of the dogs at Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary near Sacramento, CA - and the Memorial Garden we have devoted to them.

  1. It is bad enough to lose one dog, but to lose them both, three weeks apart was devastating. Leah was my wonderful Golden mix who was transported all the way up the east coast of the U.S. to Canada. And Nikki sort of fell into my lap three weeks later when her owner tried to dump her at a shelter. I was her fifth home, and promised her I would be the last. To honour them both, I chose to buy the bricks because it would support a group and facility where dogs like Leah and Nikki find refuge. Their deaths meant my home was empty of that special companionship, but it also opened the door to save another old, abandoned dog. I like to think they wouldn’t mind Grady getting a second chance.

    1. We are honored that their presence is felt in the garden, and grateful that your remembrance supports others still waiting for their forever homes. What a wonderful way to remember them. Thank you.
