Go Daddy’s Superbowl Commercial: What were they thinking?

Thanks to my sis for sharing this petition. I know some publicist somewhere is yelling “there’s no such thing as bad publicity!” But this commercial from Go Daddy needs to go. So wrong, in so many ways. Please consider weighing in.

Update: RIGHT WINS OUT. GoDaddy has pulled the ad. It really is amazing what people can accomplish when they work together. 🙂

The Blessing of Animal Companions

I don’t share a lot of petitions, but this Super Bowl commercial from Go Daddy simply appalled me on so many levels. Take a look, and sign if you feel so moved! I think they were trying to mock all the Super Bowl commercials featuring puppies, but they must be completely unaware of issues in animal welfare. Big miss.

  1. Saw this earlier today. I was appalled at the whole thing. Puppies in back of a truck, running on the side of a highway, walking over train tracks etc. Where are their brains? Oh I forgot, anything for a buck. This went way too far and I hope it’s stopped immediately. I signed the petition and wrote a letter to them.

  2. Thank you for letting folks know about this. This commercial is beyond disgusting. I am pulling my business from Go Daddy. GRCA gas written a letter asking them to pull the commercial. I encourage everyone to sign and share the petition.

  3. Wow. I can’t believe someone could think that ad was a good ideal. As tears are flowing, I am so angry! I’m sharing it with several people in hopes they will sign the petition.

  4. They have already withdrawn it and everyone is celebrating. But I have been in marketing, tv, and social media too long to take this at face value. This ad they won’t broadcast has been worth every penny they spent to make it. It really is true: no publicity is bad publicity. Because in taking it off the air, they have generated more positive feedback for themselves than Danica Patrick ever did. What appeals to the public more than a kitten or a puppy? And what gets more attention than a sad story about the same?

    1. You are a skeptic…and no doubt, right that this was planned. The networks review these weeks in advance and interestingly…they had a back-up ready. Up to their usual tricks…but still…it could not go unaddressed. The best action is lost business. I hope there is lots of it.

      1. Me too. Because I just can’t believe that nobody on their executive who approved this ad, saw the pitfalls. And I can say with a fair amount of certainty, that any marketing firm worth its salt would certainly know what kind of firestorm they were creating.
