You would be forgiven for not seeing them right away…so small among the tall summer flowers.
The mean Grackles left as quickly as they appeared…their little fledglings grown. Good riddance! And in their wake, the hummers are back.
Just in time to drink up the best of what the garden has to offer.
It seems that the staples of Penstemon and Salvia are nothing compared to the feast of Agastache and Bee Balm perfectly situated under a favorite tree for cover and rest between acrobats and nectar sips.

Your photos are beautiful! I must have sat in front of my living room window for 2 weeks last year trying to get pictures. These little ones are fast!
They are! You have to stalk them. Here’s a hint…they usually come back every 15 minutes or so.

Thank you for sharing your mighty handsome feathered friends and beautiful shots. My feeder has been out, but no takers. We had a year like this a couple back where the bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds were scarce. It’s kind of scary for a gardener who understands how food is pollinated.
We have noticed the absence of all kinds of creatures…especially since they stopped flooding the rice fields around us. Butterflies, birds, and even our tiny frogs. 😦
Capturing hummingbirds that aren’t blurry in the shots… I am envious. Beautiful pictures.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a head on shot of a hummingbird before. Makes it unique and a little more interesting. All nicely done.

Thank you. I meant to add in my original comment that it was also nice to see hummingbird shots in a more natural setting without those red plastic feeders. The only decent shots I have of hummingbirds have feeders in them so I’m a bit envious.
Try a container of Agastache, Verbena and a red or pink Sage/Salvia. They will choose these over the feeder any day!
